Visual Literacy Reflections

In this unit I have learned a lot about how to "look" at art. Art isn't just something that we hang on the wall in our house, but rather art is all around us. Just looking at the objects around me has given me a new perspective. I am finding an understanding of many of the terms, I realize that the two most important terms we need to have a great knowledge for are form and content. After reading the chapter, lecture, and completing some of the exercises I feel a greater awareness for these elements of art. Now the distinction between non-objective, representational, and abstract took me a little longer to understand. However, after going back and working with the visual continuum, completing some of the practice within the lecture, looking at the explanations in the textbook and relating them to some of the art in the book it seems more clear.

I agree that knowing the differences between abstract, non-objective and reflective artworks help to identify with the painting. This chapter has helped me out a lot as well.

I know what you mean about gaining a better understanding of the terms and seeing that there is art in everything. It really changes your perspective of daily life doesn't it?

I definitely agree that art is not just something you put up on the wall. I too learned so many new ways to view art in this chapter.

Thats true. art is something we see everywhere and take it for granted. this weeks lecture and reading helped me like it helped you too, to understand it better and identify it better.
