A World of Art

Christo and Jean-Claude's, The Gates, New York City, Central Park (1979-2005). To me after seeing the aerial view of The Gates, it made me think of red ribbon flowing through the park. Even though some New Yorkers objected to the project because they felt that it interrupted the natural landscape, I find this piece very aesthetically pleasing and it just added to the beauty of this park. By no means did this work of art take away from the natural beauty of the park. I have only visited Central Park once, I guess I just missed this awesome experience since I visited in 2006. It is wondrous to see this huge park that is just outside the hustle and bustle of a big city with all of it's tall high rise buildings. Coloring in this piece includes blue, red, various shades of green, and grey. Definitely looking at this piece it is by no means traditional when it comes to art. The one thing that I found to be really intriguing about this piece is how throughout the seasons the fabric took on different looks. The artists were conscious about the environment too, since all of the materials used in this project were recycled.

I liked the "Gates" as well. I never really would have considered that art before reading chapter 1, but it is very unique and different. It reminded me of Asian art, which I love!

"The Gates" was one of my favorite pieces as well. Mostly because it wasn't traditional 2-D art or a 3-D sculpture. It was something completely unique that makes you challenge what you see as art.
